The Business Cares Food Drive in London, Ontario has been rallying local businesses and associations to support their Food Bank for over 20 years and was campaigning to make 2020 their biggest year yet. The London Insurance Brokers Association (LIBA) recognized this and knew it was an opportunity to help the community they love.
“LIBA is always looking for ways to provide value and support to London and the surrounding community, and we knew 2020 was a challenging year for everyone. This, plus our love of doing charitable work around the holidays led to our involvement with Business Cares this year,” says Kate Gruetzner, LIBA Vice President.
Together with the London community, LIBA helped donate 597,000 pounds of food to the London and Area Food Bank, roughly the weight of 100 African elephants. This represents a 34% increase over what the campaign generated in 2019.
“We’re grateful for the support our industry partners provided us, and for the generosity of the London community. A few other Board Members were able to collect donations at a local store and we were amazed by how many people contributed and shared personal stories about why they were helping. I’m happy to say the food drive was the biggest it’s ever been. We’re so glad to have been part of it. It was an incredible experience and we can’t wait to do it again next year.”
