Every year we welcome a few new faces to our Young Brokers Council—a group of dynamic insurance professionals who help drive industry initiatives and represent the energetic and passionate voice of young brokers across Ontario. This year we’re pleased to introduce Tyler, Wendy and Tori to the mix.

Tyler Haarbosch—Account Executive, Mitch Insurance

I’ve been in the broker channel for five years. This year I joined the Mitch Insurance team in their Kingston branch. My favorite part about being a broker is that no day is the same and you’re constantly challenged with new scenarios. Every risk is different, and it’s fulfilling to get to know your clients and how to best protect them.
After attending my first Young Brokers Conference in Niagara Falls, knowing how inspired and motivated I felt when I left, I knew I wanted to be a part of the leaders creating that atmosphere.
Fun Fact: I’m a third-generation insurance broker!
Favourite Book: Mamba Mentality by Kobe Bryant—I grew up as a sports fan and it’s a great book with a lot of transferable lessons into the day-to-day workplace.
Wendy Meecham—Personal Service Lines CSR, Insureline Mutual Aid

I’ve been with Mutual Aid for four years, and a broker for two years. The part of my job I enjoy most is helping our customers ensure they’re getting the best service and coverage. I get to end a conversation knowing that I made someone’s day a little bit better. I also love working with my coworkers.
I wanted to join YBC to spread the word to other young brokers in a similar position starting out in the field that insurance doesn’t have to be dull or intimidating! It’s an awesome industry with so many opportunities.
Fun Fact: I recently won the first Rising Star Award from InsureLine Brokers.
Favourite Book: I read a wide range of genres, but right now I’m obsessed with James Patterson novels.
Tori Smith—Commercial Insurance Advisor, BrokerLink
Southwestern Ontario Territory
I’ve been with Brokerlink since 2021 and I now have my own book of business. My favourite part about being a broker is the ability to help people. I always wanted a career where I could go home at night feeling accomplished. I could never be a nurse or a doctor because I’m squeamish around blood, but helping my clients is just as rewarding!
I was recommended for the YBC position by my employer and after looking into it, I knew I’d love the opportunity to be a Team Leader.
Fun Fact: I love animals. I have 2 horses, 2 dogs and a cat.
Favourite Book: As of right now, Verity and It Ends with Us, both by Colleen Hoover have to be my top two—you can usually find me with my head in a good book.
