With Becky Moore—Broker, MacEwan & Feagan Insurance Brokers
A first of its kind! At IBAO, we monitor licensing exam scores to look for trends and better understand grades and scoring. Recently we ran into a whopping 100% on RIBO’s L3 Management Exam, a crazy impressive milestone for Becky Moore—the first Principal Pathway student to ace an L3 Management Exam.
Becky works as a PL & CL Broker and stepped into a management role in the last few years. She represents the fourth generation at her brokerage, MacEwan & Feagan Insurance Brokers in Goderich, alongside her sister and three cousins.
“Next year I’ll be purchasing the brokerage with my siblings and cousins. We’re very excited to continue the family tradition of working in insurance,” said Becky. “I wanted to obtain my L3 license so I could be a Deputy Broker and assist managing our business.”
Becky’s mother, Beth Feagan, currently serves as Principal Broker and is planning to retire in a few years. Becky saw her L3 Management License as an essential step in preparing for the future.
Getting the Act Together
Becky’s main goal was to obtain her L3, but she also wanted to learn the RIB Act, bylaws and Form 1, knowing they’d be essential in managing the business.
“I found the guided study of the RIB Act extremely helpful and appreciated being able to ask a lot of questions. The instructor was great at explaining the Act and put the contents into practical scenarios, which helped me retain the information. If I’d tried to self-study for this exam, I wouldn’t have been nearly as successful.
“I use the RIB Act frequently. It’s great to have an understanding of this while managing our business, working with insurance companies and employees. We hired three employees recently and I appreciated having strong knowledge of the RIB Act to guide the process.”
Following the Principal Pathway
In addition to covering materials like the RIB Act, Principal Pathway includes a portion dedicated to discovering your own management style.
“I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the DiSC management material—it was very engaging! The course helped me see the benefit of other management styles, and that each style has its own strengths and challenges. There’s room for many different approaches to a problem—the strength of a business is determined by how we work together.”
A History of Achievement
Becky’s perfect score on the RIBO L3 Exam isn’t her first instance of excelling academically. She was awarded the John E. Lowes Insurance Scholarship in 2004, graduated from Fanshawe College’s Business-Insurance program in 2005 and was the top CIP graduate of the Insurance Institute’s Southwestern Ontario Chapter in 2006.
“My long family history of being exposed to the insurance industry has given me practical knowledge to excel in my field. I’m also genuinely interested in insurance, which makes learning about it so much easier. I continue to use the information I learned about myself with our employees.”
As she prepares to take on more responsibility in her family business, Becky’s commitment to learning and growth will continue to benefit both her and the brokerage.
