Savagegeese Car Reviews

Colin Marshall Vice President, Will Marshall Insurance Brokers

I started watching car review programs and got into this guy Savagegeese, a YouTuber. He’s somewhat underground, so he reviews cars as they become available. He’ll make fun of a 20-year-old sports car because the old interiors are awful, but he’ll admire the engineering of the era. When he drives a sensible, reasonably priced car, he tells you. It helps me enjoy the absurdity of a $300,000 car without the buyer’s remorse. And my wife finds his voice soothing, so she’s caught watching now too.

Running

Jennifer Power Vice President, Pembridge Insurance Company Pafco Insurance Company

As an avid runner, I know firsthand the benefits running can have on your physical and mental health. It’s known to improve cognitive functioning and gives you regular opportunities to challenge yourself and push your limits. It’s meditative, allowing time to be present in the moment to concentrate, contemplate or relax. Travelling to races also provides a great excuse to explore new places from a different perspective. Running has not only added years to my life, but life to my years.

Declutter Your Mind SJ Scott & Barrie Davenport

Sukhdeep Kang CEO, Armour Insurance

I recommend this book to everyone because it deals with very simple, easy ways to deal with work related anxiety, and life. The chapter on career is a must–read for anyone currently working—it explains in-depth topics like digital reduction and physical decluttering. Breathing and meditation techniques are well explained with tips for self–improvement. There are practical examples that are easy to relate to. I learnt a lot from this book. It helped me live a more meaningful life, relax and improve my focus and efficiency.

The Queen’s Gambit | Mulan

Graham Haigh VP Broker Distribution, Wawanesa Insurance

I’ve got two recommendations and they’re related—The Queen’s Gambit and Mulan. While both are fun, well-done stories, to me what made them even better was watching them with my daughter. She’s 15, in grade 10, and it means so much to see her inspired by the strong, dynamic female leads in both stories. I want my daughter to know she can do anything she sets her mind to, and both the Queen’s Gambit and Mulan really reinforce that. I highly recommend both.

How Will You Measure Your Life Clayton M. Christensen, James Allworth & Karen Dillon

Danish Yusuf Founder & CEO, Zensurance

We all invest a lot of time and energy into building a successful career with the aspiration to make money. However, the most powerful motivator in our lives isn’t money, it’s the opportunity to learn, grow in responsibility and help build up the people around us. With that in mind, it’s essential to have a purpose in life and consciously invest in that purpose as much as, maybe more than we invest in our career. Only by having a true life strategy can we hope to achieve an enduring sense of happiness.
