Richard Leung—IBAO Business Process Coordinator
Richard Leung is the Business Process Coordinator at IBAO, a key role supporting the Operations team. Though his work is mainly behind the scenes, it contributes to the smooth functioning of many of IBAO’s systems.
“I help to design operational workflow and be on the ground level of organizational evolution,” said Richard. “This includes mapping, designing and troubleshooting processes to fulfill association goals. I work to develop the link between education, member experience and technology.”
Richard went to Toronto Metropolitan University where he studied Business Technology Management and earned a Bachelor of Commerce.
“Before the IBAO, I worked at a small family-run company called Rogers Communications for about five years. I worked various positions there, but the most recent one was Analyst.”
With Richard’s technical expertise and his mind for problem solving, he rarely runs into issues he can’t improve, whether at work or in his free time.
“Microsoft Excel is something I use daily, especially Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) and Power Query. Using VBA, and the Power Query function within Excel helps cut down manual work process immensely.
“I love dismantling things and understanding how the inner mechanism works. For example, I had a rice cooker that stopped working on me suddenly, and I thought, how hard can it be to figure out what’s wrong? I popped it open and pulled out my trusty multimeter to detect the problem. After touching many contact points, I found out it was the fuse that died. I had it replaced, and it hasn’t exploded to this day.”
When he’s not tinkering, Richard likes to keep active and is especially interested in one sport.
“I’m a huge basketball fan. I enjoy playing basketball and watching anything basketball related. I try to keep up with the hottest basketball gossip, news and memes.”
His passion for team sports fits neatly into his favourite aspects of the job.
“IBAO is very friendly and team oriented. The staff are very kind and have respect for one another, even interdepartmentally. Getting along with coworkers is crucial in a workplace environment as it makes working much more enjoyable and rewarding.”
