Developing the Talent Pipeline

For many years we’ve hosted College Day at Convention to let students from Ontario’s insurance programs see the best of what the broker channel has to offer and introduce them to brokerages looking for fresh talent. With Convention looking a little different this year, we wanted to create a similar curated experience to deliver on those networking possibilities and that insight into brokerdom.

We’ve moved College Day into its own dedicated virtual event to create a space for insurance students, brokers and industry professionals to connect and share ideas. Ontario colleges with insurance programs are invited to participate in this new event in November.

Incorporated into College Day will be a diverse panel of brokers sharing their real-world experiences of working in a brokerage. Students will have the opportunity to ask panelists why the broker channel is right for them. College Day will also host a virtual job fair where IBAO brokerages and sponsors can host virtual booths to promote their businesses and meet prospective hires. Brokerages interested in hosting a virtual booth can contact Brett Boadway for more information.

To facilitate more connections between brokers and students starting this semester, we’ve expanded our Mentorship Program, initially launched last year with much success. Following a pilot with Humber College’s Insurance Management students we’ve partnered with insurance programs at Centennial College (Toronto), Fanshawe College (London) and Conestoga College (Waterloo). If you’re interested in applying to become a mentor you can find further details here.

By encouraging students and fostering relationships with Ontario Colleges we can forge a talent pipeline between Ontario brokerages and some of the most promising young minds in the market today.
