Holiday Viewing Guide

Black Mirror | White Christmas

This holiday special wraps three interconnected tales into one episode of Black Mirror, tied together by two men isolated in a remote outpost, one of whom is played by Jon Hamm. If you’ve found yourself overdosing on holiday cheer, this is the antidote.

Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang

While not a Christmas movie per se, this Hollywood murder mystery is set during the holidays. With an off-beat buddy/cop dynamic, Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer hilariously stumble their way through a case that gets bigger and bigger.

Edward Scissorhands

With two-thirds of the film shot in sunny, warm weather without a snowflake in sight, it makes you wonder why this movie made it onto the holiday list. But hold on till the end when Christmas trees and snowflakes make a triumphant appearance, coupled with the typical feel-good Christmas moments you know and love.

Batman Returns

Arguably the best Batman movie ever released (try and change our minds), this dark and gritty drama is set during the holiday season. While not your average feel-good movie, it includes your standard villain (The Penguin) turned good by the spirit of Christmas—and who doesn’t want to see Danny Devito dressed as a penguin?

Brazil

At this point, Brazil is a sci-fi classic. And although not explicitly a holiday movie, it is, again, set during the holidays. If you’re feeling a little cabin fever this holiday season, you can follow Sam through this bizarre, dystopian world while he looks for a woman he met in his dreams.

All is Bright

Paul Giamatti and Paul Rudd play French-Canadians looking to get rich quick by selling Christmas trees out of an abandoned parking lot. They soon realize the tree selling game is a little more ruthless than expected.

In Bruges

Far ruder and violent than anything you’ll see being played on repeat this time of year, In Bruges hides out with Colin Ferrel’s hitman as he lays low in a tourist town in Belgium after a hit gone wrong. Oh and there are a couple Christmas-y things in it—it counts!
