e’re continuing our Community Leadership Award Spotlight throughout the year, featuring Ontario Brokers who went above and beyond for their community last year.
Account Executive, Youngs Insurance Brokers
Jay’s been at Young's Insurance for 15 years and is always the first in the office to participate in everything the brokerage does for their #GivingBack initiative, whether that’s donating to local food banks or wearing different coloured shirts for different causes. He’s involved in insurance related community events and is President of the Niagara South Insurance Brokers Association.
“I’m honored to be included with this great group of people recognized for community involvement by the IBAO. I look forward to the day I can resume volunteering to help out with community events. “I chose the Niagara Humane Society as the recipient of my charitable donation from IBAO because I believe in the work they do helping animals. My family and I are so happy with our decision to adopt pets and encourage others to do the same. During this pandemic, we lost our two cats we’d adopted 13 years prior and knew our home wouldn’t be the same without their companionship. We recently chose to give a furever home to two new kittens who’ve been a perfect fit in our family. They brighten our days and we’re forever grateful that there are agencies like the Niagara Humane Society who help animals find homes.”
Account Service Team Leader, Youngs Insurance Brokers
As a Board Member of the Insurance Brokers Association of Hamilton (IBAH), Kathy puts in countless hours volunteering whenever she can with organizations like Hamilton McMaster Sick Kids, Ronald McDonald House, Crime Stoppers, Good Shepperd and City Kids. As Education Chair, she’s assisted with IBAH’s Basic Broker Prep Course and helped facilitate the pivot to digital, allowing students to complete their course during the pandemic.
“I was truly blindsided being nominated and sincerely appreciate this award. I’ve been on the IBAH Board since 2001—it’s been the most rewarding experience. Through volunteering with the association, I’ve not only connected and met many people in the insurance industry, I’ve become a better person because of it. It’s been a great opportunity to see how the industry pulls together to give back to our wonderful community.
“With IBAO’s charitable donation, we were able to give back within our community to those who needed it most during the pandemic. I was happy to support CNET Canada—Canadian Neuroendocrine Tumour Society.”
Managing Partner, Billyard Insurance Group
Luke is a bright light in the insurance industry. He’s grown a successful team of young, eager professionals while continuing to give back to his community. As a proud Mohawk College alumnus, he created a $5,000 Emerging Leaders Scholarship which is awarded annually. Luke volunteers his time to individuals in need and does it all while being a husband, father and leader.
“It was amazing to be recognized by IBAO for my efforts this past year. I truly appreciate their donation on my behalf to Essential Aid & Family Services. I chose this organization because I have a young child and understand the stress little ones can cause in the absolute perfect situation. A lot of families aren’t in perfect situations and can’t afford basic necessities for their children. I can’t imagine the stress and heartache that would cause. I focus a lot of my giving on families and those less fortunate. I’ve been in those shoes before and now that I’ve created a bit of success for myself, I try to give back as much as I can like those who did for me in downtimes. Just trying to pay it forward on a larger scale!”
